Our Hardware
What We Build
The physical devices that form the nervous system of every Ætheris corridor deployment — sensing, thinking, and signaling at the edge of the road.
Built for the Road
Hardware That Lives at the Edge
Every Ætheris deployment is a network of physical devices installed along highway corridors — each one a node in a distributed intelligence system. They sense what is happening. They think at the edge. They signal instantly.
No raw footage leaves the device. No identifiable data is transmitted. The intelligence lives in the hardware itself — processing, classifying, and responding in milliseconds without ever requiring a connection to a distant data center.
These are the devices that make roads aware.
Sentinel Node
The primary sensing and classification unit at every corridor deployment
The Sentinel Node is the core field unit of the Ætheris network. Mounted roadside, it continuously monitors the corridor using thermal imaging, radar, and acoustic detection — operating in complete darkness, heavy rain, fog, and all weather conditions where optical cameras fail.
On-device AI classifies what is detected in milliseconds. A deer approaching the road edge. A vehicle that has departed the lane. A pedestrian on a rural shoulder. The device makes the determination locally — no footage is transmitted, no raw data leaves the unit.
When a confirmed event occurs, the Sentinel Node fires a structured signal outward through the network — triggering signage, dispatch alerts, and downstream nodes simultaneously.
Thermal Imaging Array
Passive thermal sensors detect heat signatures of animals and vehicles at range — day or night, in any weather. No light source required. No optical imagery captured or stored.
Radar Presence Detection
Short-range radar confirms size, speed, and direction of movement — distinguishing a deer entering the road from a vehicle decelerating normally, without any visual data.
Acoustic Event Sensing
Acoustic sensors detect impact sounds, tire departure events, and animal vocalizations — providing a secondary confirmation channel that works even when thermal and radar data is ambiguous.
On-Device Edge AI Processor
All classification runs locally on an embedded AI processor. The device distinguishes wildlife species, vehicle types, and event categories without transmitting raw sensor data off-site.
Solar + Battery Power System
Each Sentinel Node operates independently on solar and battery power — designed for remote rural deployment with no grid infrastructure required and 72-hour battery reserve.
Lane Boundary Radar
Dedicated radar tracks vehicle trajectory relative to lane boundaries — detecting departure events within 200 milliseconds of initiation, before a vehicle has left the paved surface.
Impact & Rollover Detection
Seismic and acoustic sensors confirm collision and rollover events, distinguishing them from normal traffic noise and triggering automatic emergency dispatch with GPS-precise location data.
Automatic 911 CAD Integration
Confirmed departure or impact events generate a structured incident report delivered directly to 911 Computer-Aided Dispatch systems — no human intermediary, no delay, precise coordinates.
Corridor Hazard Broadcast
Detected hazards — stalled vehicles, debris, ice, crash scenes — are broadcast upstream to approaching PathSign displays and connected vehicle systems within one second of detection.
Hardened Enclosure
IP67-rated weatherproof enclosure rated for ∔40°F to +140°F operating range — built for the full temperature and weather envelope of U.S. highway corridors without maintenance intervals.
WatchPost
Dedicated roadway departure and crash detection — human safety, first
WatchPost is Ætheris's dedicated human safety device — purpose-built to detect roadway departures and crash events and trigger emergency response automatically. Where Sentinel Nodes watch the full corridor, WatchPost watches the road itself.
In rural corridors, the time between a crash and discovery can be hours. A driver who goes off the road at 2am on a remote highway may not be found until morning. WatchPost eliminates that window — detecting the event, confirming it, and dispatching emergency services within seconds of impact.
This is the device that answers the most urgent question in highway safety: when someone leaves the road and no one is there to see it, who calls for help?
PathSign
The driver-facing display that closes the gap between detection and warning
PathSign is the roadside display unit that puts the network's intelligence in front of drivers — at the exact moment and location where it matters. When a Sentinel Node or WatchPost detects an event, PathSign activates in under one second, delivering a clear, high-visibility warning to approaching drivers.
Unlike static warning signs, PathSign only activates on confirmed detections. Drivers learn to trust it because it only fires when something is actually there — eliminating the warning fatigue that makes static signs invisible over time.
PathSign supports wildlife crossing warnings, hazard ahead alerts, crash scene warnings, and customizable messages for agency-specific use cases — all from the same unit, controlled by the network.
High-Brightness LED Matrix
5,000-nit LED display visible in direct sunlight at 1,000 feet — engineered to the MUTCD standards for dynamic message signs on federal and state highways.
Sub-Second Activation
Network-triggered activation from sensor event to illuminated sign in under one second — fast enough to warn a driver traveling at 70mph with 1,000+ feet of stopping distance remaining.
Multi-Message Library
Pre-programmed message library covering wildlife crossing, road departure, hazard ahead, crash scene, and custom agency messages — selected automatically based on event type detected.
Solar Powered, Off-Grid Ready
Solar panel and battery system supports full-brightness operation in off-grid locations — no utility connection required for rural corridor deployment.
V2X Broadcast Module (Optional)
Optional vehicle-to-everything broadcast module transmits event data directly to compatible vehicles in range — enabling in-vehicle alerts before the sign is even visible to the driver.
CorridorLink
The mesh backbone that connects every node into a single intelligent network
CorridorLink is the network backbone device that connects Sentinel Nodes, WatchPosts, and PathSigns into a unified, resilient mesh — and bridges that mesh to agency systems, dispatch infrastructure, and the outside world.
Rural highway corridors often lack reliable cellular or broadband connectivity. CorridorLink solves this by creating its own network — a self-healing mesh that routes data across nodes even when individual links fail, and aggregates corridor data for transmission during connectivity windows.
CorridorLink also handles the agency-facing integration layer — translating the network's event stream into formats compatible with ATMS platforms, 911 CAD systems, and open API endpoints for partner integration.
Self-Healing Mesh Radio
Multi-hop mesh radio network connects corridor nodes without infrastructure dependency — routes automatically around failed links and maintains network connectivity across gaps in coverage.
Cellular & Satellite Uplink
LTE and optional satellite uplink bridges the corridor mesh to agency systems and cloud infrastructure — with store-and-forward capability for corridors with intermittent connectivity.
ATMS & CAD Integration Gateway
Translates network event streams into NTCIP-compatible formats for Traffic Management Systems and structured reports for 911 CAD integration — no custom development required on the agency side.
Open API Data Endpoint
REST API endpoint exposes corridor event data to authorized partner systems — enabling automotive OEM, fleet, conservation, and research integrations without custom hardware.
Encrypted Data Aggregation
All corridor data is aggregated, anonymized, and encrypted at the CorridorLink before transmission — ensuring no raw sensor data or identifiable information leaves the corridor network.
What These Devices Do Together
A Complete Corridor,
Made Intelligent
Each device is purpose-built. Together they form a network that senses, thinks, signals, and connects — turning any highway corridor into a living safety system.
Crash Response in Seconds
WatchPost detects a departure event and fires an automatic 911 CAD alert with GPS location. Emergency services are dispatched before any bystander has stopped. Rural corridors that once meant hours of exposure now mean minutes.
Wildlife Warning That Works
Sentinel Node confirms a large animal on the road edge. PathSign activates in under one second — a bright, trusted warning that only fires on real detections. Drivers learn the sign means something. Collisions drop.
Hazard Ahead Visibility
A stalled vehicle or debris on the road is detected and broadcast upstream. Drivers approaching from a mile away see the warning in time to slow, change lanes, or stop. The crash that would have happened doesn’t.
Connected Without Compromise
CorridorLink meshes the network together and bridges it to agency infrastructure — without requiring cellular reliability or grid power in the locations that need coverage most.
Privacy by Hardware
No camera. No facial recognition. No license plate data. The entire system runs on thermal, radar, and acoustic sensing — the device cannot identify people because it was never designed to see them.
Data That Serves Everyone
Anonymized corridor event data flows to DOTs, conservation organizations, research institutions, and communities — building the evidence base for infrastructure investment, species protection, and long-term safety planning.
